Many of the adult stag beetles which are seen this year will have started life as eggs four years ago during the first survey. By recording adults seen this year you can help the study to cover one whole long stag beetle
cycle.
Details of the hunt and a survey form can be obtained from
www.ptes.org
To join the hunt and help stag
beetles:
-
If you see a stag beetle record as much information about it as you
can
-
Leave old stumps and dead wood
alone
-
Keep an eye out for potentially harmful work which could damage stag beetle habitat. Tell your county wildlife trust or local authority
ecologist
-
If you find a dead stag beetle wrap it carefully and send it to the Great Stag Hunt
II
-
If you walk along the same 500 metres of road at least once a week during May to August then there is a simple form you can fill in.
Ring 020 7498 4533 for details.
Happy hunting
