300 Ancient Olive Trees saved...but how old are they?

We have recently saved some 300 ancient olive trees from an area which is to become a dam. The trees are incredible and are being transplanted to our different wine farms and gardens by our foundation.

We are not sure how old the trees are but the largest one has a diameter in excess of 4 meters.

They are incredible. We have done quite a bit of research and have not found any trees that are larger. There are some that are close too where we are, that are protected - they are classified as trees that are at least a thousand years old.

I would like to know how I can find out the age of the trees that we have saved? (Click on the picture above to enlarge - it is rather large - 135k !)

If you have any thoughts on this, please email Renato Berardo  renato.berardo@jpvinhos.pt  ? If you could "CC" the ancient-tree-forum@woodland-trust.org.uk  - we would also be very interested to know!
