We have been alerted by Coed Cymru that in the last couple of weeks a number of large hedgerow ancient oaks have been illegally felled in Ceredigion. A local contractor has apparently been offering landowners between £150-£200 for hedgerow and field trees. Approx 100m3 has already been felled. The timber is allegedly hauled to England and from there shipped to America.
The Forestry Commission has been informed and they are now actively investigating the situation.
If you see hedgerow trees being felled please investigate further with the Forestry Commission and let us know too. Obviously there would be a number of legislative infringements in felling such environmentally important trees. |
