If you can’t find an ancient tree in the wild, go see a captive tree at the National Trust’s Ashridge Visitor Centre in Bucks.

The National Trust, Ashridge Estate hosts miles of woodland paths, ancient trees and wildlife. There is a visitor centre with shop, tea-room and educational exhibition room. The exhibition room allows visitors to learn about this amazing area of open countryside through interpretative panels and interactive equipment and models.

This year’s new feature in the exhibition room is a 3D interactive veteran oak tree in its last stage of life. The interactive tree allows adults and children of all ages and abilities to discover and learn about these amazing trees and their wildlife value through lift up flaps, audio and models.

The tree reinforces the message that these fragile old and veteran trees are a key part of the woodland ecosystem and need protecting.
