Phase 1 Survey of parklands, wood pastures and commons in Berks, Bucks and Oxon – an English Nature project.

Of the 423 parklands, wood pastures and commons identified by a desk exercise, 53 fall into the highest category of sites with important ancient tree populations and a further 93 need more investigation. Sam King, EN, says ‘English Nature is keen to gain formal recognition for the sites with greatest numbers of our oldest trees and the survey work is crucial in helping us achieve this.’

Funding is now being sought for Phase 2 which will involve visiting all the sites and mapping the trees using GPS.
