Ted says: “It is great to be awarded an MBE. To think that 3 people working with trees outside the forestry industry have now received accolades – Mike Townsend, OBE, Chief Executive of the Woodland Trust and Caroline Davis, OBE, Chair of the Tree Council and also a Trustee of the Ancient Tree Forum and me, reflects the growing importance of trees in our everyday lives and their contribution to our great British treescape.”

Towards the end of the 1980s, the Ancient Tree Forum developed from a group of enthusiasts who recognised the cultural and wildlife value of old trees. Recently the Ancient Tree Forum and the Woodland Trust joined forces to campaign together to save these rare and historic features of our living heritage.

For the past 15 years, Ted Green has fought ceaselessly for greater awareness and protection of ancient trees. For many years Ted has been a nature conservation consultant to the Crown Estates at Windsor Great Park. He argues that ‘Windsor is one of the most important ancient tree sites in Europe and for English oak, the most important site on the planet’.
