This plan sets out a long term conservation strategy for trees with high
conservation values. IT is expected to have a positive impact on over 400
Red Data Book species alone.
Says Vikki Forbes –our ATF representative in Sweden ‘The targets are
ambitious within the plan and aims for example that 80% of giant oaks (over
1m in diameter) in protected areas should be in favourable condition by 2014
and 60% of those outside protected areas.’
It is estimated that there are 35000 giant trees (70% of these are thought
to be oak) in Sweden of which 3000 are protected.
