Ancient Scots Pine, Rothiemurchuse

This large oil (shown unfinished here) is the culmination of many 'sketches', shows a damp autumn near Aviemore in the reserve of Rothiemurchus.

It is 6 foot high, like many of these 'tree book' oils.

The Gargantuam Sycamore at Drumlanrig near Dumfrie

Submitted to the RA Summer Show, this large etching depicts Great Britain's largest Sycamore with the wonderful castle of Drumlanrig behind seen as a full winter moon rises.

Two plates make up this complicated colour scheme of warm and dark hues, and Piers is, at least, very happy with the almost classical end result and it is a star pic in his GLORIOUS TREES book out Nov 2002

Artist Biography

"I am a colourist who paints because he loves pure, inspiring land and now especially seascape - the world over.
The colours of my homebase set in Pennine scenery stir me to action, but am travelling more and more for inspiration. Luckily I had the training to draw and oil paint, and now do trees and the like (see 2002 in “Biography”) ever broader & stronger.
If etching, I seek the truth in form from drawings and check the colours by painting the scenes first and by then fully know the subject which can be pushed to the limits with the beauty of form allied with vibrant colour - even with humans therein!"
