3rd Annual Windsor Bat weekend

Bats, Trees and the ‘wider’ Landscape



 
  Programme to include speakers and field visits to build upon the experience gained from the previous bats and trees workshops. The event will focus at the landscape scale using Windsor as a model system utilising last year’s data to see how bats are using an ancient wood pasture landscape.

Programme to include:
  • A site mangers overview – what do amenity tree mangers need to know from bat surveys to influence their management plans?
  • Windsor bat survey – methodology, rationale and remit (1 year on the lessons and future direction)
  • A holistic approach to managing landscapes for Bats – (with links to the ongoing work in the National Trust)
  • Bat training for arborists - a progress report
  • Field based case study – Transferring field ecology into effective conservation
  • Last years Windsor bat survey – field and desktop results (what have we got and where??)
  • The Saturday evening will conclude with surveys of the 6 Windsor survey routes and be followed by carrying out the BCT sunrise survey


Speakers include:

  • Mark Flanagan (keeper of the Royal Gardens, Windsor Great Park)
  • Dr. Karen Haysom (ecologist & chairwoman of Berks, South Bucks and Oxon bat group)
  • Phil Richardson (National Trust and Northants Bat Group)
  • Speaker from the Arboricultural Association / Bat Conservation Trust
  • Bill Cathcart, Kevin Frediani & Mark Robinson (Windsor Great Park)
  • Field surveys to be lead by members of the bat groups who have been involved in the project for the past 2 years.

Event fee of £25.00 per person which includes lunch on the Saturday (with all monies raised being split between the BCT and Local bat groups).
